Many Ethiopian women travel abroad legally, thinking they will get a job as a domestic worker in a rich Persian Gulf country. But many of them also end up victims of human trafficking. Journalist Lorenzo Milne tells of his interview with a Comboni Missionary Sister who works with these women when they are returned to Ethiopia, often with few or no belongings.

Rita, a young Syrian mother of twins, has a heart condition, and she needed surgery, tests, and drugs. During Syria's 14-year civil war, Rita received help with medical bills from a network of Christian communities, in what journalist Claire Porter Robbins refers to as "a massively bright light" among stories she heard when interviewing people from Homs, Aleppo, Damascus and other areas.

Elham Farah, 84, left the protection of Gaza's Holy Family Catholic Church for a brief trip home to get warmer clothes. She was shot in the leg and was unable to crawl 50 feet to the doctor.
